The Balvenie 12 Years DoubleWood is one of the most iconic Single Malt Scotch Whiskies from The Balvenie Distillery in Speyside, Scotland. First introduced in 1993 by legendary Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE, DoubleWood pioneered a revolutionary maturation technique that has since become one of the most influential cask-finishing methods in the Scotch whisky industry. The whisky spends its initial maturation in traditional American oak ex-bourbon casks before being transferred to European oak ex-Oloroso sherry casks, where it gains additional layers of richness, spice, and complexity while retaining Balvenie's signature honeyed character.
Crafted using The Balvenie's unique traditional production methods—including home-grown barley, a working floor maltings, in-house coopers, and resident coppersmiths—DoubleWood showcases the perfect balance between bourbon cask sweetness and sherry cask richness. The American oak imparts notes of vanilla, honey, and sweet orchard fruits, while the Oloroso sherry casks contribute dried fruits, cinnamon, nutmeg, and subtle oak spice. Bottled at 40% ABV, it remains one of the world's most celebrated Speyside single malts, ideal for both newcomers and experienced whisky enthusiasts.
