The Balvenie 21 Years PortWood is one of the distillery's most celebrated and award-winning Single Malt Scotch Whiskies, crafted at The Balvenie Distillery in Speyside, Scotland. Created by legendary Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE, this iconic expression is matured for 21 years in traditional American oak ex-bourbon casks before being finished in carefully selected 30-year-old port wine casks. This pioneering finishing technique was one of the earliest examples of secondary cask maturation in Scotch whisky and has become a benchmark for port cask-finished single malts.

The extended maturation develops extraordinary depth and elegance while preserving The Balvenie's signature honeyed house style. The American oak provides notes of vanilla, honey, and sweet orchard fruits, while the rare port casks contribute layers of ripe berries, dried fruits, dark chocolate, subtle spice, and floral complexity. Bottled at 40% ABV, the whisky offers exceptional balance, silky texture, and a remarkably refined finish, making it a favourite among collectors and connoisseurs worldwide.

Tasting Notes

Colour:
Deep amber with rich ruby-gold highlights.

Nose:
Elegant aromas of honey, ripe raisins, dried cranberries, blackberry, orange peel, vanilla, toasted almonds, floral heather, and gentle oak spice.

Palate:
Rich, smooth, and velvety with layers of honeycomb, ripe plum, black cherries, dried figs, raisins, dark chocolate, roasted nuts, cinnamon, vanilla, and subtle port wine sweetness. Beautifully balanced with refined oak and silky texture.

Finish:
Exceptionally long, elegant, and warming with lingering notes of dried fruits, cocoa, sweet oak, gentle spice, and delicate floral sweetness.
