Octomore 12.2 is a striking example of Bruichladdich’s innovative cask management within its super-heavily peated series. Distilled from 100% Scottish Concerto barley peated to 129.7 ppm, this edition was matured for 3½ years in first-fill American whiskey casks before being transferred into high-quality Sauternes wine casks from Bordeaux for 18 months of finishing. Bottled at natural cask strength, it beautifully marries Octomore’s smoky intensity with the luscious sweetness of dessert wine.

The result is a bold yet refined single malt, where powerful peat smoke is interwoven with layers of honeyed fruit, oak spice, and maritime character.

Tasting Notes:

Aroma: Smouldering peat smoke entwined with ripe apricot, honeycomb, vanilla, and subtle oak spice.

Palate: A rich interplay of smoky malt, golden sultanas, citrus zest, and caramelised sugar, balanced by Sauternes’ signature sweetness and soft spice.

Finish: Long, warming, and elegant, with lingering smoke, honey, and a touch of sea salt.
