The Akkeshi Single Blended Whisky Toji 700ml

The Akkeshi Single Blended Japanese Whisky Toji is the 18th release in The Akkeshi Distillery’s 24 Solar Terms Series, inspired by Toji, the Japanese winter solstice. It represents an important milestone for the distillery as its first Single Blended Japanese Whisky, combining both malt and grain whisky produced at the Akkeshi Distillery.

Produced in Akkeshi, Hokkaido, this expression reflects the distillery’s northern Japanese character through a layered combination of citrus, honeyed sweetness, savory umami and gentle spice. The whisky is bottled at a robust 48% ABV, allowing its complex flavor profile to remain expressive and full-bodied.

The name Toji refers to the winter solstice, traditionally regarded as a turning point when daylight begins to increase again. This seasonal theme is reflected in the whisky’s balance of warming sweetness, citrus freshness and subtle savory character.

Tasting Notes

Colour:
Warm amber with golden highlights.

Nose:
Freshly baked melon bread, orange soda, geranium and warm honey-lemon tea.

Palate / Taste:
Orange liqueur and matcha-flavored maritozzo bring sweetness and richness, followed by savory umami broth and salty biscuit notes.

Finish:
Initially showing a gentle tartness before developing into a long finish of savory umami, sweetness and warming spice.
