The La Rioja Alta Gran Reserva 904 2011 is one of Spain's most iconic fine wines, produced by the legendary La Rioja Alta S.A., a winery established in 1890 and internationally acclaimed for crafting benchmark traditional Rioja. Produced only in exceptional vintages, Gran Reserva 904 is named in honour of the winery's merger with Ardanza in 1904, representing over a century of winemaking excellence and meticulous ageing.

The 2011 vintage, officially rated "Excellent" in Rioja, is crafted from 89% Tempranillo sourced from old vines over 60 years of age in Briñas, Rodezno, and Villalba, complemented by 11% Graciano from the Montecillo vineyard in Fuenmayor. The grapes were hand-harvested into small boxes and transported under refrigeration to preserve freshness. Following fermentation and natural malolactic fermentation, the wine was matured for approximately three years in four-and-a-half-year-old American oak barrels, handcrafted by the winery's own cooperage, with eight traditional barrel-to-barrel rackings before bottling in November 2016. The result is an exceptionally refined Rioja that combines remarkable freshness, silky texture, and extraordinary ageing potential.
