Algueira Pizarra 2021 is a highly regarded single-vineyard red wine from Ribeira Sacra, produced by the acclaimed estate Adega Algueira. Sourced from steep slate (pizarra) terraces along the Sil River, this wine captures the essence of “heroic viticulture,” where vines cling to extreme slopes and produce low yields of intensely expressive fruit.

The 2021 vintage is a structured and mineral-driven interpretation of Mencía, showing more depth and complexity than entry-level expressions. Fermented using indigenous yeasts and often whole-cluster techniques, it is aged for around 12–18 months in a combination of French oak barrels and large foudres, enhancing structure while preserving purity of fruit.

This is a serious Atlantic-style Spanish red—combining freshness, tension, and earthy minerality with a refined yet slightly rustic character built for food and short-to-mid term ageing.

Complex aromas of black cherry, raspberry, and wild strawberry layered with violet florals, crushed herbs, licorice, cocoa, and distinctive slate-driven minerality

Medium-bodied with vibrant acidity and fine-grained tannins. Shows a balance of red and dark fruits, earthy undertones, and a saline, mineral backbone typical of Ribeira Sacra terroir

Finish:
