Altos Las Hormigas Malbec Gualtallary 2021 is an expressive and mineral-driven Argentine Malbec from Gualtallary in the Uco Valley, Mendoza. Made from 100% Malbec grown at approximately 1,400 metres above sea level, the wine reflects the distinctive limestone-rich soils of the region.
The 2021 vintage combines concentrated dark fruit with vibrant freshness, floral and herbal aromatics, chalky tannins and a pronounced mineral character. Notes of crunchy plum and blueberry are complemented by violet, native herbs, tangerine peel and kumquat, while graphite-like minerality adds depth and complexity.
The wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts in small concrete tanks and matured for 15 months, with two-thirds aged in uncoated concrete vats and one-third in large 3,500-litre untoasted French oak foudres. It then receives 10 months of bottle ageing before release.

Tasting Notes

Colour:
Deep ruby red with pronounced reflections and a violet core.

Nose:
Aromatic and expressive with crunchy plum, blueberry, violet and native herbal notes, complemented by tangerine peel, kumquat and distinctive graphite-like minerality.

Palate:
Concentrated and vibrant with fresh plum and blueberry flavours supported by floral, herbal and mineral nuances. Chalky, rounded tannins provide structure, while bright acidity creates freshness and energy.

Finish:
Long, crisp and refreshing with lingering mineral, herbal and dark fruit notes and a distinctive salty character.
