Ardbeg Kelpie is a highly sought-after limited-edition Islay single malt released for Ardbeg Day 2017. Inspired by the mythical sea creature of Scottish folklore known as the Kelpie, this expression celebrates Ardbeg's deep connection to the rugged maritime environment of Islay.

What makes Kelpie unique is its maturation in a combination of traditional ex-bourbon casks and rare virgin oak casks crafted from oak sourced near the Black Sea region. This unusual oak influence adds remarkable depth, spice, and maritime character while complementing Ardbeg's signature peaty style.

Tasting Notes

Colour:
Burnished gold.

Nose:
Powerful aromas of peat smoke, seaweed, smoked fish, dark chocolate, coastal brine, black pepper, herbs, and charred oak.

Palate:
Rich and oily with layers of smoky peat, sea salt, dark chocolate, coffee, clove, black treacle, vanilla, citrus zest, hickory wood, and maritime notes. The Black Sea oak contributes additional spice and depth.

Finish:
Long, warming, and intensely smoky with lingering brine, charred oak, spice, dark chocolate, and coastal salinity.
