Benriach Malting Season 1st Edition Single Malt Whisky 700ml

Benriach Malting Season First Edition is a distinctive Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky created to celebrate one of the distillery's most traditional production methods: floor malting barley on site. It is the first Benriach expression in more than a century to be produced entirely using barley malted at the distillery's historic floor maltings.

The First Edition uses Concerto barley that was floor-malted at Benriach before being distilled on 2 November 2012. The resulting spirit was matured in a combination of bourbon and virgin oak barrels, allowing the natural cereal character of the malt to remain prominent while developing layers of vanilla, honey, orchard fruit, and gentle oak spice.

Bottled at 48.7% ABV, this limited small-batch release delivers a creamy, wholesome character with a distinctly malty and nutty profile. Only 23 barrels were used to produce 6,672 bottles, making the First Edition a notable expression for collectors and enthusiasts interested in traditional whisky-making techniques.

Tasting Notes

Colour:

Barley gold.

Nose:

Richly aromatic, with barley sugar, almond fudge, poached orchard apple, and gentle sweet malt.

Palate:

Smooth and rounded, with vanilla, honeyed pear, ripe orchard fruit, and the creamy sweetness of malt.

Finish:

Long-lasting and gently warming, with a lingering nuttiness from the slowly kilned malt alongside soft spice and oak.
