Campogiovanni Il Quercione Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG 2016 is the flagship single-vineyard Brunello from San Felice's Campogiovanni Estate, crafted only in exceptional vintages. Produced exclusively from 100% Sangiovese Grosso, the wine originates from the historic Il Quercione vineyard, a prized 2.5-hectare south-facing parcel situated at approximately 250 metres above sea level in Montalcino. The vineyard's medium-textured soils, rich in clay, sandstone, and calcareous marl, produce fruit of extraordinary concentration, elegance, and remarkable ageing potential.

The legendary 2016 vintage is considered one of Brunello di Montalcino's finest in modern history, delivering exceptional balance, structure, and freshness. Grapes were hand-harvested on 7 October before undergoing a 25-day maceration at controlled temperatures. Following malolactic fermentation, the wine was matured for 24 months in 500-litre French oak tonneaux, followed by an additional 36 months of bottle ageing before release. Produced only in outstanding years, Il Quercione Riserva represents the purest expression of the Campogiovanni terroir, combining power, finesse, and exceptional longevity.

Tasting Notes

Colour:
Very deep ruby red with brilliant garnet reflections.

Nose:
Intense aromas of ripe blackberries, black cherries, plum, sweet spices, cocoa powder, leather, tobacco, cedar, and balsamic herbs with subtle earthy complexity.

Palate:
Full-bodied with concentrated layers of black cherry, blackberry, ripe plum, dark chocolate, liquorice, espresso, and savoury spice, supported by ripe, juicy tannins, vibrant acidity, and remarkable balance. Rich and structured while maintaining outstanding elegance and freshness.

Finish:
Exceptionally long, powerful, and persistent with lingering dark fruits, cocoa, leather, spice, mineral notes, and refined oak complexity.
