The Château Grand Corbin "Les Charmes de Grand Corbin" 2018 is the elegant second wine of Château Grand Corbin, a prestigious Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé estate situated on the northern edge of Saint-Émilion, neighbouring the famous Pomerol appellation. While recognised as the estate's second label, Les Charmes de Grand Corbin is produced from an exceptional 8-hectare vineyard with vines averaging 50 years of age, offering a level of quality and complexity that goes well beyond a traditional second wine.
The 2018 vintage benefited from excellent growing conditions, producing grapes of remarkable concentration and freshness. Crafted predominantly from Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc, the wine is vinified with the same meticulous attention as the Grand Vin. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled vats before ageing in French oak barrels, resulting in a beautifully balanced Saint-Émilion that combines generous fruit, silky tannins, and refined elegance. The blue clay soils of the Corbin plateau contribute structure, depth, and excellent ageing potential.
Tasting Notes
Colour:
Deep ruby red with brilliant garnet reflections.
Nose:
Elegant aromas of ripe black cherry, blackberry, plum, violet, truffle, cedar, mocha, sweet spice, and subtle toasted oak.
Palate:
Medium to full-bodied with generous flavours of blackcurrant, black cherry, plum, dark chocolate, liquorice, espresso, and savoury spice. The palate is supported by silky tannins, fresh acidity, and excellent mineral tension, creating a wine that is both approachable and capable of graceful ageing.
Finish:
Long, refined, and persistent with lingering dark fruits, cocoa, cedar, truffle, and gentle oak spice.
