The Clos du Mont-Olivet Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2023 is the flagship red wine of the historic Clos du Mont-Olivet, one of the most respected family estates in the Southern Rhône. Founded in 1932 by the Sabon family, the domaine has become renowned for producing traditional, terroir-driven Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines that combine concentration with elegance. The estate owns parcels across many of the appellation's finest lieux-dits, including La Crau, Montalivet, and Bois Dauphin, creating a wine that faithfully reflects the complexity of this iconic appellation.
The 2023 vintage is produced from a blend of 75% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 9% Mourvèdre, and 6% traditional Rhône varieties including Cinsault, Counoise, Vaccarèse, Terret Noir, Picpoul Noir, and Muscardin. Fruit comes predominantly from old-vine Grenache, with some vines dating back to 1901. The varieties are co-fermented, partially destemmed, and matured for approximately 20 months in a combination of large oak foudres and concrete tanks, preserving the wine's purity while adding texture and complexity. The result is a Châteauneuf-du-Pape that is both powerful and remarkably refined.
