The Clos du Mont-Olivet Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée du Papet 2020 is the flagship prestige cuvée of Clos du Mont-Olivet, one of the most respected family-owned estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. First produced in 1989, Cuvée du Papet represents the finest selection of fruit from the estate's oldest vineyards and is named in honour of the Sabon family's grandfather ("Papet" in Provençal). Produced only in outstanding vintages, it embodies the domaine's most profound and age-worthy expression of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

The 2020 vintage is crafted from 90% Grenache, 5% Syrah, and 5% Mourvèdre, with the Grenache sourced from century-old vines, including parcels planted as early as 1901. The grapes are hand-harvested and co-fermented using traditional methods with gentle extraction to preserve elegance and freshness. The wine undergoes a long maceration before ageing in a combination of large oak foudres, concrete tanks, demi-muids, amphorae (jars), and a small proportion of French oak barriques, resulting in extraordinary complexity while maintaining purity of fruit and terroir expression.

Tasting Notes

Colour:
Deep, opaque ruby with intense garnet reflections.

Nose:
Highly expressive aromas of blackberry, black cherry, cassis, liquorice, thyme, garrigue, cracked black pepper, graphite, cedar, tobacco, violet, and subtle smoky spice.

Palate:
Full-bodied, powerful, and beautifully refined with concentrated layers of blackberry, blackcurrant, black cherry, plum, liquorice, baking spices, dark chocolate, and Provençal herbs. Exceptionally fine tannins, remarkable freshness, and chalky minerality create superb balance and precision, despite the wine's impressive depth and concentration.

Finish:
Exceptionally long and elegant with lingering dark fruits, graphite, garrigue, black pepper, spice, and mineral complexity.
