The Domaine de l'Hortus Le Loup dans la Bergerie 2021 is a vibrant and approachable Southern French red from the renowned Domaine de l'Hortus, one of the pioneering estates of the Pic Saint-Loup region in Languedoc. Established in 1978 by Jean Orliac and now managed by the Orliac family, the estate is celebrated for producing elegant, terroir-driven wines that showcase the unique limestone slopes beneath the dramatic Pic Saint-Loup and Hortus cliffs.
Le Loup dans la Bergerie ("The Wolf in the Sheepfold") is the estate's signature everyday cuvée, crafted to express freshness, fruit purity, and Mediterranean character. The 2021 vintage is a blend of Syrah, Grenache, Merlot, and Mourvèdre, sourced from younger vines grown on limestone scree, clay-limestone, and marl soils. The grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks before a short maturation period in concrete and stainless steel, preserving the wine's bright fruit, supple texture, and lively freshness.

Colour:
Deep ruby red with vibrant purple reflections.
Nose:
Inviting aromas of blackberry, black cherry, raspberry, violet, thyme, rosemary, liquorice, cracked pepper, and subtle Mediterranean herbs.
Palate:
Medium-bodied and juicy with flavours of ripe blackberry, plum, blackcurrant, raspberry, sweet spice, and garrigue. Silky tannins and refreshing acidity provide excellent balance, making the wine approachable while maintaining complexity and elegance.
Finish:
Fresh, smooth, and persistent with lingering dark berries, herbs, black pepper, and mineral notes.
