Famille Hugel Classic Pinot Noir 2023 is an elegant and approachable expression of Pinot Noir from Alsace. Produced by the historic Hugel family in Riquewihr, it combines the familiar fruit character of Pinot Noir with the freshness and distinctive style of Alsace. Famille Hugel describes this bottling as a light, pleasant red with an unmistakably Alsatian character.
The grapes come from predominantly clay-limestone parcels around Riquewihr and south of Colmar. They are harvested exclusively by hand in small containers to ensure the fruit arrives intact at the winery. The grapes are completely destemmed and undergo approximately one week of maceration, with two punch-downs per day.
After fermentation, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and is matured entirely in tanks, without oak ageing. This approach preserves the purity of the Pinot Noir fruit and avoids masking its delicate aromatic character with excessive wood influence.
