Famille Hugel Classic Riesling 2024 is the estate's signature dry Riesling, showcasing the precision, freshness and mineral character for which Alsace Riesling is renowned. Famille Hugel describes Riesling as its most demanding white grape variety and compares its role in white wines to Pinot Noir among red varieties.
The grapes are sourced exclusively from hand-harvested vineyards in a dozen favoured localities around Riquewihr, predominantly on clay and limestone soils. The cool, long growing season contributes to the wine's finesse and intensity.
The grapes are transported intact in small containers and gravity-fed into the presses without pumping. After gentle clarification, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled vats at 18–24°C. The wine is racked once, naturally clarified through winter, lightly filtered and then aged in bottle in Famille Hugel's cellars before release.
The 2024 vintage opens with floral aromas of lily of the valley and elderflower, followed by lively citrus zest. The palate is completely dry and energetic, with lemon, lime and yuzu flavours carried by vibrant acidity and a long, refreshing finish.
