The Julien Pilon Le Bruit Des Vagues Marsanne/Roussanne 2023 is an elegant Northern Rhône white wine crafted from 70% Marsanne and 30% Roussanne. Produced by acclaimed winemaker Julien Pilon, this cuvée takes its name, "Le Bruit Des Vagues" ("The Sound of the Waves"), inspired by memories of Julien's time working in the vineyards of Collioure and Banyuls near the Mediterranean. The wine is designed to capture freshness, precision, and aromatic purity while showcasing the expressive character of the Rhône's classic white grape varieties.

The fruit comes from two plateau vineyards overlooking the Northern Rhône Valley at an average altitude of 300 metres. Their cooler exposure, compared with neighbouring appellations such as Condrieu and Saint-Joseph, allows the grapes to retain excellent natural acidity and freshness. The vineyards are planted on granitic, sandy soils, contributing elegance and mineral tension. Each parcel is hand-harvested and vinified separately. After gentle pressing and rigorous settling, fermentation proceeds slowly, followed by complete malolactic fermentation. The wine is then matured for 10 months in 400-litre French oak barrels, adding texture and complexity while preserving the vibrant fruit profile.

Tasting Notes

Colour:
Bright golden straw with pale green reflections.

Nose:
Fresh and expressive aromas of white peach, apricot, pear, citrus zest, white flowers, beeswax, quince, and subtle hints of vanilla, toasted nuts, and wet granite.

Palate:
Medium to full-bodied with flavours of ripe peach, apricot, lemon, mandarin, quince, and fresh butter. A creamy texture from barrel ageing is balanced by lively acidity and pronounced mineral freshness, creating a wine that is both generous and beautifully structured.

Finish:
Long, fresh, and elegant with lingering citrus, floral notes, saline minerality, and delicate oak spice.
