The Julien Pilon Syrah De L'Autre Rive 2020 is an elegant 100% Syrah from the Northern Rhône, crafted by acclaimed winemaker Julien Pilon. The name "De L'Autre Rive" ("On the Other Bank") pays tribute to the very first vineyard Julien cultivated, situated on the left bank of the Rhône River, directly opposite the prestigious village of Condrieu. This cuvée reflects Julien's philosophy of producing expressive, terroir-driven wines with finesse rather than power.

The fruit comes from an old-vine Syrah vineyard planted on deep clay soils with rounded river stones, providing excellent water retention and producing wines with supple tannins and generous fruit. The grapes are fully destemmed before fermentation in open-top stainless steel vats, with approximately three weeks of maceration and frequent but gentle pump-overs to maximise colour and aroma extraction without excessive tannin. Following fermentation, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in barrel and is matured for 10 months in seasoned French oak barrels, allowing the fruit to remain the focal point while adding subtle texture and complexity.

Expressive aromas of red cherry, raspberry, blackberry, liquorice, cracked black pepper, violet, and subtle spice.

Palate:
Medium-bodied and beautifully balanced, offering flavours of ripe red berries, black cherry, plum, liquorice, and gentle spice. The palate is supple with fine, silky tannins and refreshing acidity, creating an elegant and approachable Northern Rhône Syrah.

Finish:
Smooth, fresh, and persistent with lingering red fruits, liquorice, pepper, and delicate savoury notes.
