Domaine Michèle & Patrice Rion Nuits-Saint-Georges Aux Barrières 2023 is an expressive Burgundy Pinot Noir from a distinctive vineyard site in the northern part of Nuits-Saint-Georges, close to the boundary with Vosne-Romanée.

Located just below the Premier Cru vineyards of Les Murgers and Les Cras, and above Vosne-Romanée's Aux Réas, Aux Barrières occupies an exceptional position between two renowned Burgundy villages. The domaine describes its character as somewhere between a village wine and a Premier Cru, earning it the distinction of a "village plus" expression.

The vineyard's shallow clay-limestone soils contain limestone fragments, known locally as laves, from around 40cm below the surface. Vines planted in the 1980s produce Pinot Noir with fragrant cherry fruit, floral nuances and a distinctive mineral character.

The 2023 vintage combines concentrated fruit with freshness and refined structure. Matured on fine lees in oak barrels, including approximately 30% new oak, it develops supple tannins, depth and complexity while retaining the elegance associated with northern Nuits-Saint-Georges.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Deep, dark and brilliant ruby red.

Nose: Expressive aromas of Morello cherry and dark red fruits, accompanied by delicate floral notes and subtle earthy nuances.

Palate: Medium to full-bodied, with concentrated cherry and dark fruit flavours. Supple, polished tannins provide structure, while mineral and savoury nuances add complexity.

Finish: Long and persistent, with refined tannins, fresh fruit and a subtle saline mineral character.
