Olivier Leflaive Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Angles 2021 is an elegant Premier Cru Pinot Noir from the renowned Clos des Angles vineyard in Volnay, one of Burgundy's most celebrated villages for refined and aromatic red wines. Produced by Olivier Leflaive Frères, this exceptional cuvée showcases the house's expertise in expressing the individuality of Burgundy's finest terroirs. Situated on the upper slopes of Volnay with a prized south-east exposure, Clos des Angles features shallow clay-limestone soils that produce wines combining the finesse of Volnay with a slightly fuller structure reminiscent of neighbouring Pommard. The vineyard is sustainably farmed, with all grapes harvested by hand from mature vines averaging around 40 years of age.

The challenging 2021 vintage yielded wines of remarkable freshness, precision, and elegance despite severe spring frosts that significantly reduced production. The grapes undergo a traditional Burgundian vinification using 50% whole clusters and 50% destemmed fruit, followed by a 21-day fermentation in open vats. The wine is then matured for 16 months in French oak barrels, including 28% new oak, before spending four months in stainless steel to preserve purity and balance. The result is a beautifully layered Premier Cru Burgundy with vibrant red fruit, silky tannins, floral perfume, and outstanding ageing potential.
