Pio Cesare Barolo DOCG 2021 is the flagship Barolo of the historic Pio Cesare winery, one of the most prestigious and influential producers in Piedmont since its founding in 1881. Crafted from 100% Nebbiolo, this classic Barolo is sourced from the estate's family-owned vineyards across the renowned communes of Serralunga d'Alba, Grinzane Cavour, La Morra, Monforte d'Alba, Novello, and Barolo, complemented by carefully selected fruit from long-standing partner growers. This multi-vineyard approach creates a beautifully balanced expression of Barolo, combining elegance, structure, aromatic complexity, and exceptional ageing potential.

The outstanding 2021 vintage is widely regarded as one of the finest in recent years, producing wines with remarkable concentration, vibrant acidity, and beautifully refined tannins. Following traditional fermentation with extended skin maceration, the wine is matured for approximately 30 months in a combination of large French oak casks and a small proportion of French oak barriques. The result is a sophisticated Barolo that showcases vibrant red fruit, floral elegance, savoury complexity, and the timeless character that has made Pio Cesare one of Italy's benchmark producers.

Brilliant garnet red with vibrant ruby reflections.

Nose:
Elegant aromas of ripe cherry, wild raspberry, rose petals, violet, red plum, orange peel, liquorice, sweet spices, tobacco, and delicate earthy minerality.

Palate:
Full-bodied with beautifully layered flavours of red cherry, raspberry, cranberry, and wild strawberry, complemented by notes of rose, balsamic herbs, liquorice, and subtle spice. Silky yet structured tannins, lively acidity, and refined mineral character create outstanding balance, depth, and classic Barolo elegance.

Finish:
Long, refined, and persistent with lingering red fruits, dried flowers, savoury herbs, fine spice, and elegant mineral complexity.
