Planeta Chardonnay 2023 is one of Sicily's most iconic white wines and a benchmark expression of 100% Chardonnay from the renowned Planeta family. First released in 1994, this wine played a pivotal role in establishing Sicily as a producer of world-class white wines. Sourced from the Ulmo and Maroccoli vineyards in Menfi DOC, the vineyards are cultivated according to organic farming principles and the SOStain® sustainability protocol, producing fruit of exceptional purity and character.

The 2023 vintage is crafted from hand-harvested grapes picked between 22 August and 7 September. After careful cooling, gentle pressing, and cold settling, the juice ferments in 225-litre Allier French oak barriques at controlled temperatures. The wine is aged on its fine lees for 11 months, with regular bâtonnage to build texture and complexity. Maturation takes place in 40% new French oak, 30% second-use barrels, and 30% third-use barrels, resulting in a Chardonnay that beautifully balances richness, freshness, and mineral precision. The 2023 growing season produced aromatic, concentrated fruit with outstanding quality despite lower yields.

Rich, bright golden yellow with brilliant clarity.

Nose:
Expressive aromas of ripe yellow peach, acacia honey, almond paste, toasted cereals, vanilla, buttered brioche, and delicate mineral notes.

Palate:
Full-bodied, creamy, and beautifully balanced with flavours of ripe stone fruits, baked apple, citrus zest, acacia honey, toasted oak, marzipan, and subtle saline minerality. Fresh acidity provides lift and elegance, creating a harmonious balance between richness and precision.

Finish:
Long, refined, and persistent with lingering notes of ripe peach, toasted hazelnut, vanilla, mineral freshness, and elegant oak spice.
