Salicutti Brunello di Montalcino Piaggione DOCG 2019 750ml

Salicutti Brunello di Montalcino Piaggione DOCG 2019 is a distinguished Tuscan red wine made from 100% Sangiovese from the Piaggione vineyard of Podere Salicutti in Montalcino. The vineyard sits on east-southeast-facing slopes at approximately 420–450 metres above sea level, with fossil-rich limestone soils that contribute mineral character, freshness and structure to the wine.

The grapes are harvested entirely by hand and undergo spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel vats, followed by 12–21 days of maceration. The wine is aged for 36 months in wooden barrels of progressively larger sizes before spending a further 15 months in bottle. French oak is used for the tonneaux and smaller barrels, while the largest barrels are made from Slavonian oak.

The 2019 vintage combines ripe cherry and dark fruit with tobacco, roses, mineral and subtle savoury nuances. Its refined tannins, fresh acidity and layered structure give the wine both elegance and considerable ageing potential.

Nose:
Complex and expressive, with ripe cherry, dark plum and red berry aromas complemented by rose petals, tobacco, underbrush, spice and subtle mineral nuances.

Palate:
Full-bodied and structured, with concentrated cherry and dark-fruit flavours supported by fresh acidity and fine, powdery tannins. Savoury herbal, tobacco and mineral notes add depth and complexity.

Finish:
Long, persistent and elegant, with lingering dark fruit, mineral, tobacco and subtle spice notes.
