Schiopetto Rivarossa is the historic red blend of the Schiopetto estate, first produced in 1968. Its name comes from a cadastral parcel of the estate where the clay-rich soil is particularly suited to Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine expresses Schiopetto's distinctive Friulian approach to Bordeaux varieties, combining ripe fruit with freshness, savoury character and elegant tannins.
For the 2019 vintage, the blend is 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes are harvested by hand, destemmed and fermented separately according to the phenolic maturity of each variety. Malolactic fermentation is followed by extended ageing in oak, allowing the wine to develop additional depth and a rounded texture.
The wine presents an inviting ruby-red colour with aromas of black cherry and small red fruits, complemented by tobacco, liquorice and black pepper. The palate is velvety and balanced, with ripe, elegant tannins, refreshing acidity and a lively, spicy finish.
