Tenuta di Sesta Due Lecci Ovest Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG 2015 is the flagship single-vineyard Riserva from the historic Tenuta di Sesta estate, a family-owned winery with winemaking roots dating back to 1850. Crafted exclusively from 100% Sangiovese Grosso, this exceptional Brunello Riserva is produced only in outstanding vintages from the celebrated Due Lecci Ovest vineyard, located on the southern slopes of Montalcino between 280 and 350 metres above sea level. The west-facing section of the vineyard is selected during warmer vintages, where its deeper, less stony soils produce wines of exceptional concentration, elegance, and ageing potential.
The outstanding 2015 vintage is regarded as one of the greatest in Brunello history, delivering perfectly ripened fruit with remarkable balance and structure. Grapes were hand-harvested between 29 September and 5 October before gentle pressing and approximately 25 days of maceration. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by 3.5 years of ageing in 30–35 hl Slavonian oak casks and a further 12 months of bottle ageing before release. Produced in an average quantity of only 3,000 bottles, this Riserva represents the finest expression of the estate's terroir and traditional winemaking philosophy.
Tasting Notes
Colour:
Deep ruby red with brilliant garnet reflections.
Nose:
Intense aromas of ripe black cherry, blackberry, plum, sweet spices, tobacco, forest floor, humus, dried mushrooms, balsamic herbs, and subtle floral notes.
Palate:
Full-bodied with concentrated layers of black cherry, ripe plum, blackberry, liquorice, dark chocolate, sweet spices, and earthy complexity, supported by velvety tannins, vibrant acidity, and outstanding balance. Powerful yet elegant, with remarkable depth and refinement.
Finish:
Exceptionally long, rich, and persistent with lingering dark fruits, tobacco, leather, forest floor, spice, and elegant mineral notes.
